£200,000 EXTRA SECURED FOR ERDINGTON HIGH STREET

In the coming weeks Erdington High Street will have the first stage of investment carried out to replace the tired pavements with conservation stone paving. This is possible after YOUR local Conservatives secured £200,000 to go with a further £100,000 worth of funding already in place to fund the improvements work.

Over the last year we have been fighting to replace the pavements along Erdington High Street. Residents will be aware that the pavements have fallen in to total disrepair and look unacceptably shabby. Robert, Bob and Gareth have being pushing for the whole pavements to be replaced rather than just repaired. Cllr Bob Beauchamp said “nearly 70% of residents supported out campaign for top quality paving to be installed along Erdington High Street when returning our survey last year.”

Cllr Robert Alden said “other political parties and some officers have said that Erdington doesn’t need or deserve to have quality paving that is on par or better than places like Lichfield. However we have made it clear that that attitude was and is completely unacceptable. The continued pressure from ourselves has now paid off with the Council agreeing to a top quality surface to be used to replace the pavements along Erdington High Street.”

Cllr Gareth Moore added “the work is due to start around the Church . This is because we wanted to ensure that the heart of Erdington is looking its best for when the Church re-opens at the end of the year. In addition to the quality stone slabs for the High Street, where there are vehicle run ups these will be in conservation setts and where relevant conservation drainage channels. Erdington High Street should have the best and phase 1 of the project will show that we are delivering only the best for Erdington High Street!”
